Two million Bosnians and Herzegovinians were forced to flee their homes during the war between 1992 and 1995, which is almost half of the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Even though our refugees flooded neighboring countries, in most cases they were greeted friendly by complete strangers. Since then, the attitude of Europeans towards people fleeing disasters, wars or political persecution has drastically changed. Perhaps citizens of some happier countries may have the luxury of not sympathizing with refugees, but citizens of this country do not.
This is what inspired the association KONTAKT to organize the exhibition “FreeDom” in cooperation with the Memory Modul (Festival MESS) and with the support of the Open Society Fund Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Our goal is to remind ourselves and others of the misfortune of millions of displaced people around the world.
“FreeDom” presented the works of authors who have devoted most of their professional lives to documenting the suffering of displaced persons around the world.
